The Franklin Scholarship
Benjamin Franklin is the Patron Saint of Theta Xi Fraternity. Mr. Franklin is a fitting patron for Theta Xi as he valued both education and a zestful life experience. He was a true Renaissance man who contributed significantly in many fields of endeavor and he epitomizes the American ethic of hard work and ingenuity. He was a scientist, an inventor, a statesman, a printer, a philosopher, a musician, and an economist. Franklin was a good friend and brother to many.
The $1,000 Franklin Scholarship is awarded annually by the Theta Xi Fraternity at Virginia Tech to one entering freshmen male who shows outstanding scholastic and leadership capabilities. The following factors are considered in awarding the scholarship:
|
 |
Extracurricular activities
Leadership responsibilities and accomplishments
Academic performance
Maturity and comportment, and
Personal development goals
All male freshmen may apply for consideration by completing the Franklin scholarship application, which requests information about academic performance and extracurricular activities. These applications will then undergo an evaluation process. The Theta Xi scholarship and leadership development council will make an initial selection based on the applications and the selected candidates will be contacted to set up personal interviews during the Fall semester.
Consideration and award of this scholarship is independent of an applicants decision to join Theta Xi or any other fraternity.
